Art History Major at University of Toronto

RAISE GOOD HABITS FOR FUTURE SUCCESS

Sandy developed many good study habits during her time at Newton, such as taking notes, preparing for courses in advance, and summarizing lectures after class. Those habits not only helped Sandy review the class material more closely but also enhanced her own ability to identify key points of each lecture.

All those activities that she participated in at Newton allowed her to explore her interest in Art as well as build friendships with her classmates.

Sandy also shared that Universities advocate more self-learning. That’s why she kept emphasizing “Developing a good study habit in high school will help you adapt to the pace of college faster!”

LEARN WHAT YOU LOVE & LOVE WHAT YOU LEARN

Sandy has been interested in liberal arts and painting since she was a child. She spent a lot of time exploring and researching Chinese and Western artworks in museums and exhibitions. That is the reason why she chooses the Art History Major.

“Learning something you are interested in is a very happy thing! When you apply for a university major, you must choose a field of interest so that you can be motivated to study.”

STRONG AND ASSERTIVE LEARNING ABILITY

Sandy is not only fond of learning art, but also a good cook in her daily life. In her view, cooking for yourself is a process of decompressing and exploration. Moreover, Sandy is also a talented pianist. When she was a child, her mother took her to the Children’s Palace to find out what her interest was. Sandy then pointed to the piano and said clearly to her mother, “I want to learn this.” Then, playing piano gradually become one of her hobbies. “Doing what you love is the cornerstone of having abundance in your life. A hobby a day keeps the doldrums away.”

ADVICE FOR NEWTON’S CURRENT STUDENTS

Time is limited, so you need to learn to find a balance in everything. Compared with high school, university study requires independence and persistence. As the university material and workload are much more significant, a good note will help you save considerable time and effort. In addition, you should choose the major you love so that you will be willing to invest time and energy in the learning process.
