Honors Chemical Engineering Co-op at University of Waterloo

ANY STRESS ON THE UNIVERSITY COURSES?

The engineering program is very competitive, but the school gives us enough support. The Teaching System is open 27 hours every week providing professional guidance through email. Compared with face-to-face classes, teachers in online classes summarize important learning points more clearly and make them easy to learn. Unlike offline classes, there will be small problems of unclear pronunciation and intonation.

CO-OP PROGRAM

We have 24 months to work for different companies, which is enough time for me to try different positions and accumulate more experience for finding a full-time job after graduation. Other universities’ co-op program is only one term of 6 months. Sufficient co-op time is the biggest advantage here.

DID YOU GET ANY HELP WHEN APPLYING FOR UNIVERSITIES?

The academic counselor at Newton gave me a lot of help and support. I still clearly remember there were a lot of email communications with universities upon submission, and there were also many required supplementary documents. The academic counselor took the initiative to speak with me, ensuring that the information was well delivered to the university in time. Further to this, all the paperwork was completed with their help, which saved me much time and enabled me to concentrate more on my Grade 12 studies.

SUPPORT FROM NEWTON ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

Yes, I have received a lot of useful information from the Newton Alumni Association. I think it’s great to have such an association because it allows me to share my university experience with other students. If there will be any alumni events in the future, I am very willing to participate! However, since I am studying at Waterloo, it will be a little difficult for me to participate offline. However, I’d like to communicate with everyone virtually and try my best to help. If you have any questions about the co-op program, please feel free to contact me any time!
