Science and Engineering at University of Toronto

ANY STRESS ON THE UNIVERSITY COURSES?

“It’s very busy with my studies, especially for science and engineering majors. It’s common for me to have full classes all day. Compared with my high school life, I do need some time to adjust from a high school student to a college student to be able to enhance new knowledge. Also, my studying method needs to be able to adapt quickly to the very different teaching styles of different professors.”

TWO INTERNSHIPS

Felix senior is going to enter his senior year of study. Up to now, he has conducted two summer internships in two well-known domestic companies, which has benefited him significantly. (China Telecom: one of the three major telecom operators in China; Bosch: an upstream component supplier for famous brands such as Mercedes-Benz and BMW). In order to accumulate more work experience, lay a solid foundation for future employment, and make adequate preparations, Felix planned to postpone graduation. He hopes to take this opportunity to do more internships in Canada, accumulate local work experience, and enjoy the Canadian working culture.

DID YOU GET ANY HELP WHEN APPLYING FOR UNIVERSITIES?

“In the beginning, I was worried about whether I would postpone graduation by one year, but fortunately, my teachers at Newton were very enthusiastic and proactively helped me solve the problem. This allowed me to successfully complete the application in a short time and under high pressure. I was admitted to the University of Toronto in Computer Engineering, Mathematics, and Statistics! Thank you very much for the advice from the dean and the support from all my teachers, which allowed me to graduate on time and saved a lot of precious time.”

ADVICE FOR NEWTON’S CURRENT STUDENTS

“You should step out of the school, experience more internships while ensuring that your academic arrangements are in place. The internship is not only the accumulation of work experience but also provides us with an opportunity to challenge ourselves. Internship helps us consolidate the knowledge that we have learned in school and apply them to practice. We would gain more insights from the internship and it also benefits us with the job hunting after our graduation.”
